Hiragana and Katakana

Japanese has a very unique writing system. Japanese people are using three different types of scripts in a daily life. Those are called Hiragana, Katakana and Kanji.

Kanji are Chinese characters and adopted from Chinese language. Kanji are ideograms where other two system, Hiragana and Katakana are phonetic symbols. Both were made in Japan, around the 9th century.

Hiragana was created by simplifying Kanji and mainly used among women in the palace. Katanaka was created by monks in order to recite Buddhist scriptures in the original language.
